Innamorati: The meeting

Many life coincidences led to Quatuor Bozzini's encounter with puppeteer Marcelle Hudon. First was Clemens' transplant to Quebec in the late 1990s. Thereafter his reunion with a great-cousin, Felix Mirbt, who had settled in Quebec's Eastern Townships after immigrating in the 1950s, a renowned puppeteer. He was a model, mentor and colleague for many artists, including Louise Lapointe (artistic director of Festival de Casteliers,) Francis Monty (Théâtre de la pire Espèce) and Marcelle Hudon. The connection was made. Collaborations — and the friendship between Clemens and Marcelle began with Le requin blanc se mulitiplie in 2001. Then it was Die Reise ou les visages variables de Félix Mirbt in 2011 a tribute to Felix who had recently left for the long journey in 2002. The years pass, but the artistic affinities remain. In 2020, Quatuor Bozzini this time in its full formation and Marcelle meet again to lay the foundations for a new creation. Music, puppets, shadow theatre, video projection and nods to the shared past. We are reacquainted with the character of Dona Rosita, an original puppet by Felix Mirbt, we continue to knit woollen scarves that began during "requin blanc" in 2001.

The new creation Innamorati will be presented at the Festival de Casteliers   in co-production with Le Vivier on March 2 and 3. The quartet is surrounded by Marcelle Hudon and Csaba Raduly on shadow theatre, live video and manipulation of puppets and drawings and will perform music by Ana Sokolović, Cassandra Miller, Michael Oesterle as well as their own improvisations.

Innamorati is a suite of short pieces of contemporary music performed by four luminous musicians and liberally illustrated by two benevolent puppeteers. While Columbine rises and Zanni tries to catch her feet, birds chatter and musicians play springs. These unlikely lovers meet on a sheet of paper where they intertwine to win a final race against death.

There is still time to get your tickets for our *IN-PERSON* concert Ways of Returning! The concert will take place on February 23rd at the Espace Orange — Édifice Wilder and is co-presented with Le Vivier. The concert will also be available as a webcast.

:
Tom Johnson builds a poetic musical world by exploring the infinite possibilities of mathematical formulas and assembles compositions in the manner of luminous, sometimes hypnotic kaleidoscopes. Witness to the effervescence of the New York experimental school, notably with his role in The Village Voice magazine in the 1970s, this minimalist composer who rubbed shoulders with Feldman and Cage is still active today at the age of 82. Called "a brilliant musical scientist" (CBC), "breathtakingly inventive" (Sydney Times Herald), and "utterly inspiring" (I Care If You Listen), award winning composer and filmmaker Nicole Lizée creates new music and video from an eclectic mix of influences including the earliest MTV videos, turntablism, glitch, rave culture, film theory, Hitchcock, Kubrick,
Alexander McQueen, thrash metal, 1960s psychedelia and 1960s modernism. Read more

Michael Oesterle is a Canadian composer living in Deux-Montagnes Québec. While he writes primarily for the concert hall, he has composed for theatre, film, animation, and dance projects. His concert music has been performed by a wide range of groups such as Ensemble intercontemporain (Paris) and Tafelmusik (Toronto). Oesterle's inspiration comes from his fascination with the lives of scientists and their focus and creativity, their work methods and the adversity they face in society. Read more
