"They have a fine warm, almost old-school sound that is a pleasure to hear applied to cutting edge musical ideas.”

- George Grella, New York Classical Review (Aug 2025)

“Bozzini brought to mind the silkier side of a feather in their deliberate interpretation of Miller’s new piece.”

- Ben Gambuzza, Evenings with the Orchestra (Aug 2025)

“One beautiful sound moment follows another in the hands of this excellent quartet.”

- Ben Taffijn, Nieuwe Noten (Sep 2025)

 October 18-19, Montreal

We have back-to-back Montreal concerts October 18-19, with pre-concert discussions with the artists, to present the exciting and unique voices reflected in our new commissions from established and emerging composers. Presented at Espace Orange – Édifice Wilder in co-production with Le Vivier.

October 18 celebrates our 25th anniversary co-commissioned works from Taylor Brook, Zosha Di Castri, and Cassandra Miller.

Brook, Composer’s Kitchen alumnus (2009) and composer of Musique de chambre (noire) (2012, film+music), invents a microtonal folk music inspired by the legendary city of Vineta. Vinetan Songs (2025) is composed in a way that aspires to the richness and variety of structures, signs, and techniques that develop over generations in a musical tradition.

We are delighted to work with Zosha di Castri for the first time on a piece that explores the textures and sonic possibilities of the string quartet. ‘Delve’ (2025) reaches inside, searching, digging deep, like the excavation of a tunnel or the exploration of an obscure cave. As we move further in, the sound is transformed through the coloristic possibilities of mutes, each leaving its distinct imprint on the sound.

Miller has collaborated over many years with Quatuor Bozzini, notably with About Bach (2016), winner of the Jules Léger Prize, and the incredibly intimate Thanksong (2020). Her latest piece, Three Songs (2025) for Quatuor Bozzini is about the joy of learning new things about old friends, and is loosely based on songs the quartet members sang as children, or perhaps to their children.

We are proud to announce that this is a co-commissioning project in partnership with Darmstädter Ferienkurse, TimeSpans, Earle Brown Music Foundation, Le Vivier, Soundstreams, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and Gaudeamus, resulting in multiple performances of these pieces worldwide.

October 19 features the North-American premieres of our brand new Composer Kitchen 2025 pieces that were presented at Gaudeamus Festival in Netherlands last September.

Julia Mermelstein’s ‘Brush (in open air) (in resin)’ is about accumulated sound memories from nature, from bodies from song; Lucie Nezri’s ‘for quatuor bozzini,’ is also about memory, but stemming from half-rememberd and half-erased memories of Arab-Andalusian musical tradition; Niko Schroeder’s ‘Freeze piece’ investigates existential questions about string quartet, and Corie Rose Soumah’s ‘We, To Be So Transformed,’ inspired by a dystopian novel by Marlen Haushofer.
