June 9th 8:30pm (doors 8pm), Sala Rossa, 4848 boul. St-Laurent
Christian Wolff, composer, performer, improviser and author, is a pioneer of experimental music associated with the New York School (John Cage, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown), incorporating
elements of indeterminacy and improvisation in his works. We are delighted to welcome this great artist to Montreal and to share the stage with him for some of his signature pieces as well as to present a brand new string quartet written for the occasion. Five seasoned guest musicians will join us and Christian for the concert: Martin Arnold (melodica), Émilie Girard-Charest (cello), An Laurence Higgins (electric guitar), Philippe Lauzier (bass clarinet) and Andrea Young (voice and electronics). We hope to see many of you there!
During his Montreal visit, Christian Wolff will dedicate an afternoon of experimentation with a select group of young musicians. The composer will present some of his open scores - works with indeterminate instrumentation - to the participants, as well as his text scores, which will be read and studied with the members of Quatuor Bozzini. We are very pleased to facilitate this once-in-a-lifetime learning experience.
Both events are presented in co-production withSuoni per il Popolo. Special thanks to Kiva Stimac from Popolo Press for the stunning poster!
All our projects are possible thanks to the financial support of our public partners, our artistic collaborators and presenters, and also to you, our dear audience.
Creation residencies, commissions, recordings, multidisciplinary projects, creation workshops (via the Composer's Kitchen, the Bozzini Lab, the Performer's Kitchen), educational workshops in primary and secondary schools, CEGEPs as well as universities, all benefit from this financial support.
Quatuor Bozzini is a registered charity and you will receive a receipt for your donation. Thank you for helping us bring these creative projects to life!
