After a summer start at Time:Spans in New York and the Dartington Summer Music Festival in England, Quatuor Bozzini prepares for a year of concerts that will take them across Canada and Europe.

Celebrating collaborations with young composers, our Montreal season opens on September 23rd at Tana Schulich Hall with four premieres from our partnership with ACTOR (Analysis, Creation and Teaching of Orchestration): four composers, Chelsea Komschlies and Marilou Buron from McGill University, Miko Sabatino and Showan Tavokol from Université de Montréal, and four researchers, Robert Hasegawa, Jimmie LeBlanc, Jade Roth and Emanuelle Majeau-Bettez have been part of the project since 2021.

Andy Moor / Yannis Kyriakides
Québec Musiques Parallèles October 12-16
Quatuor Bozzini + Duo Moor- Kyriakides

In mid-October, we will share the stage with the Moor- Kyriakides duo, featuring the English guitarist Andy Moor of the legendary experimental punk rock band The Ex, and Netherlands-based, Cyprus-born composer Yannis Kyriakides. They will perfom a set blending classic Rebetiko songs with explorative post-punk tendencies and we will premiere a brand new piece by Yannis Kyriakides for string quartet and electronics. The concerts are part of Québec Musiques Parallèles and will be October 12-16 in Toronto, Québec, Saguenay, Rimouski and Montréal.

Christina Volpini / Anders Hannevold / James Lowrie / Elise MacMillan

At the end of October, composers Christina Volpini, Anders Hannevold, James Lowrie et Elise MacMillan will join Quatuor Bozzini and mentors Cassandra Miller and Nils Henrik Asheim for Composer’s Kitchen 2022. The pieces will be premiered in Montreal, at the Multimedia Studio of the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal and then performed again in Oslo as part of our partnership with nyMusikk Norge.

On November 19, we will mark our return to Théâtre La Chapelle as part of the Le Vivier à La Chapelle contemporary series with 1998 – Quatuor Bozzini, two programs featuring the music of Gerald Barry (Ireland), and Cassandra Miller, Linda Catlin Smith and Tanya Tagaq (Canada). These long-time collaborators have contributed to the evolution of our quartet as we have shaped and refined our approach to sound and style, supported by music that is as dynamic as it is profound. 1998 is the subtitle of Barry's reputedly unplayable second quartet, premiered by Bozzini in 2002!

ON TOUR

In early October, the quartet is featured in two concerts at the Riverrun Festival in Albi, France: with the ensemble Dedalus and singer Peyee Chen performing Jürg Frey's Grounds of Memory, and a quartet program dedicated to Alvin Lucier and Tom Johnson.

In November, we have several concerts in the Netherlands at the November Music and Sounds of Music festivals, as well as at Orgel Park and De Link, with music by Éliane Radigue, Merijn Bisschops, Marc Sabat and Jürg Frey. We will present an all-Canadian program in Dresden, Germany at Hellerau, with the world premiere of Alexandre David and reprises of James O’Callaghan and Simon Martin.

In December, we make our long-awaited debut at Wigmore Hall with three concerts featuring Cassandra Miller and Gerald Barry with soprano Juliet Fraser. Also on the program are works by Claude Vivier, Tanya Tagaq, Linda Catlin Smith and Michael Oesterle.
