On February 20th, we invite you for an evening of unheard sounds that transmits the pulse of Canadian musical creation!
Quatuor Bozzini presents four world premieres by Canadian composers working in microtonal systems, including just intonation. From the imaginary folk melodies of Francis Battah to Bekah Simms’s homophonic textures; towards Paolo Griffin’s search of density within quiet music, and Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière’s liminal approach inspired by kineticism. A result of sketch-to-piece workshop residencies with Quatuor Bozzini during 2023.
This concert is presented in collaboration with Le Vivier.

Paolo Griffin ©Klara Kovarova
Paolo Griffin is a composer and curator based in Toronto/Tkarón:to whose work explores ongoing research about the sounding and perception of microtonal rational intonation (Just Intonation) and alternate tuning systems.
|
|
The music he creates explores the creation of colour/shading/densities in sound, and non-hierarchical forms of action/interactions between processes and systemic organizations. His practice spans sound, performance, text, and improvisation and includes the creation of notated music and text/event scores, exploring possibilities that result from fleeting moments of intersection and centring performer-composer collaboration.
You can read here about the piece Adherence that he wrote for us. And click here to learn more about Paolo and his work.
